After the international financial crisis in 2008, with the expansion of steel production capacity of mild steel tube, the contradiction of overcapacity in the steel industry intensified and the price competition became increasingly fierce, which seriously disrupted the market order and damaged the interests of the industry. In addition, with the rapid development of steel e-commerce platform, the increase of steel futures products and the strengthening of financial attributes, steel price fluctuations are more frequent.The association has always attached great importance to maintaining the smooth operation of the industry, and carried out some targeted work and achieved certain results.

First, we have continuously strengthened monitoring and analysis of industry operations, timely released statistical data, steel and iron ore price indexes and industry analysis reports, and made efforts to make industry operations and demand information open and transparent to all types of market entities. We will encourage and guide steel pipe suppliers to organize production according to their needs and orders, and refrain from “price wars”. Second, we will continue to strengthen high-level exchanges with foreign iron ore suppliers, reach consensus on ideas, and jointly maintain a mutually beneficial and win-win iron ore market order. From 2016 to 2018, with the joint efforts of all parties, the rare situation of steel price recovery, stable mining price and reasonable profit distribution on the industrial chain gradually emerged.

Third, we should actively respond to the international trade situation and stabilize steel exports of structural steel pipe. When foreign countries launched trade remedy investigation on China’s steel products, the association was the first to raise its voice, make clear its position, seriously analyze the impact on the operation of China’s steel industry, and organize enterprises to actively respond. In addition, the timely release of early warning information of key countries and regions, and the active bilateral exchanges and consultations have largely avoided the intensification of the problem, and achieved a good situation that the number of trade remedy investigation cases against Chinese steel has decreased and steel exports have been maintained at a relatively reasonable level. Starting from the overall situation of the industry development, the association vigorously promotes the great achievements of China’s steel industry in cutting capacity of China hollow section, green development and structural adjustment and its great contributions to the economic development of China and the world, so as to enhance the public’s understanding of the development of the steel industry and good results have been achieved.
