At present, the basic national conditions of mineral resources and their status and function in the overall development of the country have not changed, and the trend of resource and environment constraints of Gi square steel pipe has not changed. Under the current international situation, economic and social development background and climate constraints, it is particularly important to strengthen the security of important minerals, promote the coordination between resource development and ecological protection, and build a safe, green and efficient resource security system.

The China Iron and Steel Association said that to develop into a steel power, it must first become a resource power. We should speed up the development of iron ore resources, improve the ability to secure resources of black iron steel pipe, and vigorously support the expansion and strengthening of the industrial chain of recycling and recycling of recycled steel materials. We will strictly limit the construction of projects with high energy consumption and high emissions, create a reasonable environment for competition, strictly control total production capacity and optimize industrial structure through carbon emission and energy consumption targets and ultra-low emissions, and promote green, low-carbon and high-quality development of the industry. At the same time, an effective market-based industry self-discipline mechanism should be established to effectively maintain market order and form a new mechanism that conforms to market rules and market requirements with both energy consumption and policy constraints of carbon steel pipe, industry self-discipline and government supervision.

The substitution of scrap steel for iron ore is still growing
At present, the supply and consumption of scrap steel resources are on the rise. In 2020, the total amount of scrap steel resources in China is about 260 million tons, and it is expected to reach more than 340 million tons in 2025. In 2020, the country’s consumption of scrap steel reached 230 million tons, up 6.5 percent year-on-year. According to incomplete statistics, from January to September 2021, the total consumption of scrap steel in China is about 200 million tons, with a year-on-year increase of 31.2%, and it is still climbing.
After the elimination of 140 million tons of “floor strip steel” production capacity in 2017, the supply of scrap steel resources in China has seen a substantial increase in statistical quantity. With the accumulation of iron and steel, the supply of thinner wall steel pipe increases steadily, with an annual increment of about 20 million tons. It is expected that in the next 5-15 years, the output of waste steel resources will gradually enter the fast track. Scrap steel resources will increasingly become an important supplement to iron ore resources, and the share of scrap iron instead of iron ore will show an increasing trend.
