In fact, China’s iron and steel mainly blast furnace smelting long process as the mainstream, mainly coke as the main fuel, carbon emission is also very obvious shortcomings. The fact that the quantity of scrap in China is small and the amount of recycling leads to the short process and low carbon technology of electric furnace is not enough to meet the demand of the national economy for steel products such as pre galvanized steel pipe.
How to achieve a breakthrough in the key technologies of low carbon smelting in traditional blast furnaces and form a low carbon metallurgical route suitable for China’s national conditions? Baosteel has made its production process greener by optimizing the energy structure and increasing investment in energy-saving and environmental protection technologies. At present, Baosteel is accelerating the research and development of low-carbon metallurgy technology represented by hydrogen-rich carbon cycle, microwave sintering, zero emission hydrogen metallurgy, etc., to explore the technical route of carbon neutrality in the steel industry. Focusing on the needs of key industries, Baosteel carries out the full life cycle evaluation of steel products. Starting from the full life cycle of material use, Baosteel carries out the green design of steel products like square steel pipe on the basis of the assessment of resource consumption and carbon emission. It significantly improves product performance through the quality strategy, realizes the green use of products, improves the capability of comprehensive material solutions, and builds the supply chain of green products.
